Help

Galop

Galop is a national helpline for LGBT+ victims and survivors of abuse and violence. They additionally offer help in accessing emergency services - even if the victim is unsure/against pursuing legal action against the perpetrator/s. Their extensive educational guides supply users with the language and information needed to seek help, even young people, who have a dedicated reference section. Some topics discussed include consent and the law. Galop may also refer you to other services if they feel you may benefit from further support or guidance.

Why is this important?

"LGBT people are nearly four times more likely than non-LGBT people to experience violent victimization, including rape, sexual assault, and aggravated or simple assault"[1]. It can be theorised that the social stigmatisation and fetishism of LGBT+ people play a role in this. Many LGBT+ people face fear of seeking help due to these issues being continuously found in health care and places of law too.

A space for LGBT+ people to seek help after experiencing violence without discrimination is incredibly important. Outreach services for minorities serves as a life-line for so many people. It's the difference between being overlooked and being listened to, being further victimised and being helped. I greatly believe that resources like this being lost would have a devastating impact, especially on young people. Donations ensure that running a website, hotline, and additional support services remain viable.

What can I do?

Donations are accepted directly via Galop's website. If you're an avid video game player or streamer, it may also be worth checking out Game for Galop.
