Create

Create is a "multi-award-winning charity empowering lives, reducing isolation and enhancing wellbeing through the creative arts". They run community projects for children and adults facing difficulties to help build social connections and emotional wellbeing.

They prioritise their work with seven participant groups:

• Children in care and care leavers
• Disabled children and adults
• Schoolchildren in areas of deprivation
• Vulnerable older people
• Young and adult carers
• Young and adult prisoners
• Young patients
• Other marginalised children and adults

Why is this important?

The arts has shown to be a great benefit to a person's mental and emotional wellbeing. Engaging in art lowers a person's stress levels, encourages social and emotional development, and even has physical health benefits. [1]

What's more is the communal implications of art. Charities like Create fortify relationships among participants as well as affirming their place in wider society. Via art, people have an avenue to express themselves and interact with wider society productively. This can be especially beneficial to marginalised communities who may not have access to as many opportunities.

Charities such as Create are frequently overlooked but hold just as much necessity as wider recognised organisations.

What can I do?

Create offers a direct one-off or monthly donation via their website. They also offer many ways in which you can donate easily such as Give as you Like which makes a donation to charity every time you shop online. For more information, check out their "Other ways to give" section under "Individual Support".
